The Archdiocese of Ranchi ( Latin Archidioecesis Ranchiensis ) is an archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church in India with its seat in Ranchi .
The Archdiocese of Ranchi includes the districts of Lohardaga and Ranchi in the state of Jharkhand .
history
The Archdiocese of Ranchi was on May 25, 1927 by Pope Pius XI. established with the Apostolic Constitution In omnes christiani from cessions of territory from the Archdiocese of Calcutta as the Diocese of Ranchi . It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Calcutta as a suffragan . The Diocese of Ranchi gave on June 14, 1951 parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Sambalpur . Another assignment of territory took place on December 13, 1951 to establish the diocese Raigarh-Ambikapur .
On September 19, 1953, the diocese Ranchi was by Pope Pius XII. with the Apostolic Constitution Mutant res raised to the archbishopric. The Archdiocese of Ranchi gave on June 5, 1971 parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Daltonganj . On June 22, 1984, the Archdiocese of Ranchi gave parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Port Blair . Further assignments of territory took place on May 28, 1993 to found the dioceses Dumka, Gumla and Simdega and on April 1, 1995 to found the diocese of Khunti .
