The Archdiocese of Agra ( Latin Archidioecesis Agraënsis ) is an archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church in India with its seat in Agra .

history

On May 17, 1784, the Mission sui juris Hindustan from the Apostolic Vicariate of Great Mogul was established. In 1820 the elevation to the Apostolic Vicariate Tibet-Hindustan took place. 26 years later, in 1846, the name of the Vicariate Apostolic was changed to Agra.

On September 1, 1886, the Vicariate Apostolic Agra was finally elevated to an archbishopric. On September 13, 1910, there were territories to the Archdiocese of Shimla , on January 12, 1940 to the Lucknow diocese and on February 20, 1956 to the Meerut diocese .
