The Syro-Malankara Catholic Major Archeparchy of Trivandrum ( lat. : Archieparchia Trivandrensis Syrorum Malankarensium ) is in India located Großerzbistum the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church , based in Trivandrum (now officially Thiruvananthapuram ).
history
Pope Pius XI founded the Archparchy Trivandrum with the Apostolic Constitution Christo pastorum Principi on June 11, 1932. On December 16, 1996 it lost part of its territory to the Eparchy Marthandom .
The Arch Parchy was elevated to a major archbishopric on February 10, 2005. It lost further territorial shares on January 2, 2007 to the Eparchy Mavelikara , on January 25, 2010 to the Eparchy Pathanamthitta and on August 5, 2017 when the Eparchy Parassala was founded .
The Grand Archbishopric only includes the Syro-Malankar Catholics of the area. The Catholics of the Latin and East Syrian rites who also live there belong to other dioceses.
The Grand Archbishop of Trivandrum of the Syro-Malankars is however the first hierarch (church leader) of the entire Syro-Malankara Catholic Church , an autocephalous church of the west Syrian rite united with Rome.
