history

Pope John Paul II founded it with the Apostolic Constitution Singulares omnino on December 16, 1996 from cession of territory from the Grand Archdiocese of Trivandrum , to which it was also subordinated as a suffragan diocese.

The eparchy only includes the Syro-Malankar Catholics of the area. The Catholics of the Latin rite and the Syro-Malabar rite who also live there belong to other dioceses.
