The Syro-Malabar Catholic Major Archeparchy of Ernakulam -Angamaly ( Latin Archidioecesis Ernakulamensis-Angamaly , Malayalam എറണാകുളം-അങ്കമാലി അതിരൂപത Ernakulam-Aṅkamāli Atirūpata ) is an Archdiocese of with Rome Uniate Syro-Malabar Church , the Thomas Christians , on the southwest Indian Malabar Coast . The seat of the diocese is on Mount St. Thomas near Ernakulam in the state of Kerala , India . Their bishop is major archbishop and head of the Syro-Malabar Church.
On July 28, 1896, the Apostolic Vicariate Ernakulum was established and on December 21, 1923 elevated to the Archdiocese of Ernakulum . On July 29, 1956, the new diocese Kothamangalam was created from parts of the archdiocese . On December 16, 1992 the name was changed to the Archdiocese of Ernakulam-Angamaly .
The archdiocese is subordinate to the diocese of Kothamangalam and the eparchy Idukki .
