Antony Kariyil

Antony Kariyil CMI (born March 26, 1950 in Cherthala , India ) is a Syro-Malabar religious priest , archbishop and vicar of the major archbishop of Ernakulam-Angamaly .

Life

Antony Kariyil joined the Congregation of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate at and received on 27 December 1977, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

On August 26, 2015, the Holy See announced its election as Bishop of the Eparchy Mandya by the Synod of the Syro-Malabar Church with the prior consent of Pope Francis . The episcopal ordination received his his predecessor George Njaralakatt , Archbishop of Tellicherry , on 18 October of that year. Co- consecrators were the Apostolic Nuncio in India, Archbishop Salvatore Pennacchio , and the Archbishop of Bangalore , Bernard Blasius Moras .

The Synod of the Syro-Malabar Church elected him in August 2019 as Vicar of the Grand Archbishop of Ernakulam-Angamaly . Pope Francis appointed him titular Archbishop pro hac vice of Macriana Maior on August 30th of the same year .
