The diocese of Ajmer ( lat. : Dioecesis Aimerensis ) is in India situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Ajmer .
history
The diocese of Ajmer was founded in 1890 by Pope Leo XIII. from the cession of territory by the Archdiocese of Agra as Mission sui juris Rajputana . In 1891 the Mission sui juris Rajputana was promoted to the Apostolic Vicariate .
On May 22, 1913, the Vicariate Apostolic Rajputana was raised to the diocese and renamed the Diocese of Ajmer . It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Agra as a suffragan . The Diocese of Ajmer gave up on March 11, 1935 parts of its territory to establish the Apostolic Prefecture of Indore . On May 13, 1955, the Diocese of Ajmer was renamed the Diocese of Ajmer and Jaipur . The Diocese of Ajmer and Jaipur gave up parts of its territory on September 13, 1963 to establish the Archdiocese of Bhopal . Another assignment of territory took place on December 3, 1984 to establish the diocese of Udaipur . On July 20, 2005, the diocese of Ajmer and Jaipur by Pope Benedict XVI. divided into the dioceses of Ajmer and Jaipur .
