Ranchi is a district in the Indian state of Jharkhand .
The area is 5097 km². The administrative seat is the city of the same name Ranchi . The district is the most populous in Jharkhand.
history
The region has historically been under the influence of various empires and empires such as Magadha , the Maurya Empire , the Gupta Empire , the Mughal Empire and the British Empire .
Today the district belongs to the Naxalite - communist influenced " Red Corridor ".
