Latehar is a district in the Indian state of Jharkhand .
The area is 4291 km². The administrative seat is the city of the same name Latehar .
history
Before the district was founded in 2001, it was part of the Palamu district . Today the district belongs to the Naxalite - communist influenced " Red Corridor ".

The population was 726,978 (2011). The population growth rate in the period from 2001 to 2011 was 29.61% and was therefore very high. Latehar has a gender ratio of 967 women per 1000 men and thus a common surplus of men for India. The district had a literacy rate of 59.51% in 2011 , an increase of almost 19 percentage points compared to 2001. However, literacy is still well below the national average. Almost 65.1% of the population are Hindus , approx. 9.6% are Muslims , approx. 6.6% are Christians and approx. 18.8% did not state any religious affiliation or practiced other religions. 18.9% of the population are children under 6 years of age.
