Simdega is a district in the Indian state of Jharkhand .
The area is 3774 km². The administrative seat is the city of the same name Simdega .
history
Before the district was founded in 2001, it was part of the Gumla District . Today the district belongs to the Naxalite - communist influenced " Red Corridor ".

The population was 599,578 (2011). The population growth rate in the period from 2001 to 2011 was 16.58%. Simdega has a gender ratio of 997 women per 1000 men and thus a common surplus of men for India. The district had a literacy rate of 67.99% in 2011 , an increase of almost 14 percentage points compared to 2001. However, literacy is still below the national average. Almost 51.1% of the population are Christians , approx. 33.6% are Hindus , approx. 2.5% are Muslims , approx. 0.1% are Buddhists , and approx. 12.6% stated no religious affiliation or practiced other religions. The district is one of the few areas in India with a Christian majority. 15.8% of the population are children under 6 years of age.
Almost 7.2% of the population live in cities.
