The diocese of Raigarh ( Latin : Dioecesis Raigarhensis ) is a Roman Catholic diocese in India . It is a suffragan diocese of the Archdiocese of Raipur .

history

Originally the diocese was established under the name Raigarh-Ambikapur on December 13, 1951 from parts of the dioceses of Nagpur and Ranchi and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Bhopal as a suffragandiöze. The Jesuit Oscar Sevrin became the first bishop .

November 1977 the diocese was then divided into the dioceses of Raigarh and Ambikapur . After the diocese of Raipur was raised to the archbishopric in 2004, the diocese of Raigarh became one of the suffragan dioceses of this new archdiocese. March 2006 the diocese lost part of its territory when the diocese of Jashpur was established from it.
