The Diocese of Ambikapur ( Latin : Dioecesis Ambikapurensis ) is a Roman Catholic diocese in India . The administrative seat is in the city of Ambikapur . It is a suffragan diocese of the Archdiocese of Raipur and consists of the districts of Surguja and Koriya .

history

The diocese was established in November 1977 when the Raigarh-Ambikapur diocese was divided. The Jesuit Philip Ekka became the first bishop . Originally, the diocese was under the Archdiocese of Bhopal as a suffragandiöze. However, after the diocese of Raipur was raised to an archdiocese in 2004, the diocese of Ambikapur became its suffragandiöze.
