Telesphore Placidus Toppo
Telesphore Placidus Cardinal Toppo (born October 15, 1939 in Chainpur , India ) is an Indian clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Ranchi .
Life
Telesphore Placidus Toppo received the sacrament of priestly ordination in Himmelried in 1969 after theological and philosophical studies . Further studies took him to the Pontifical Urban University in Rome . After a few years in pastoral care and university service, he was called to Bishop of Dumka on June 8, 1978 . The episcopal ordination received his Archbishop Pius Kerketta on 7 October of the same year. 1984 Pope named him John Paul II. To Koadjutorerzbischof , a year later the Archbishop of Ranchi . In 2003 Toppo was admitted to the College of Cardinals as a cardinal priest with the titular church Sacro Cuore di Gesù agonizzante a Vitinia .
He was President of the Indian Bishops' Conference .
Cardinal Toppo took part in the 2005 conclave , in which Benedict XVI. was elected Pope. He was also a participant in the 2013 conclave that Pope Francis elected.
Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on June 24, 2018.
Fifth Marian Dogma
The cardinal asked Pope Benedict XVI. in 2008 to introduce a fifth Marian dogma about Mary as co-redeemer . Such an explanation would make it easier for non-Catholics to understand Our Lady. This was also supported by Cardinal Luis Aponte Martínez , Archbishop Emeritus of San Juan, Puerto Rico; Cardinal Varkey Vithayathil , Archbishop of Ernakulam-Angamaly , India; Cardinal Riccardo Vidal , Archbishop of Cebu , Philippines, and Cardinal Ernesto Corripio y Ahumada , Archbishop Emeritus of Mexico City. A corresponding dogma in the interreligious dialogue with the Muslims, to whom Mary is familiar through the Koran , is helpful . There she is considered to be the greatest of all women, sinless and virgin .
