Leo Tigga

Leo Tigga SJ (born January 31, 1916 in Paikpara , India , † January 29, 1986 ) was an Indian religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Raiganj .

Life

Leo Tigga joined the Congregation of the Jesuits and received on 21 November 1948, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

On August 8, 1962, Pope John XXIII appointed him . the first diocesan bishop of the former Apostolic Prefecture of Malda, who was elevated to the Diocese of Dumka on the same date . The Archbishop of Malta , Michele Gonzi , ordained him episcopal on October 7th of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Ranchi , Pius Kerketta SJ, and the Bishop of Raigarh-Ambikapur , Stanislaus Tigga . He participated in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council as a council father.

Pope Paul VI appointed him on June 8, 1978 first bishop of the diocese of Raiganj established on the same date .
