Raipur ( Hindi : रायपुर , Rāypur ) is the capital of the Indian state of Chhattisgarh in the northeastern Deccan .
It has about a million inhabitants. The economy is determined by the wood and food industries. The river Kharun flows west of Raipur. The city is said to have been founded by a Kalachuri king of Ratanpur, Ram Chandra or his son Brahma Deo in the last quarter of the 14th century.
