Mahasamund ( Hindi महासमुंद ) is a city in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh .

Mahasamund is the administrative seat of the district of the same name . The city is located about 10 km east of the course of the Mahanadi River . Mahasamund is located on the national highway NH 353 ( Bhawanipatna - Raipur Highway ) about 50 km from Raipur to the west. Mahasamund is connected to the railway network. At the 2011 census, the city had just under 55,000 inhabitants. Mahasamund was promoted to a municipal corporation after 2014 .
