The Zündfunk Netzkongress is a conference that deals with the effects of the digital on all areas of life. It has taken place every autumn since 2013 in the Munich Volkstheater . On two days, various topics from politics to culture, media, technology and entertainment will be dealt with in numerous panels, discussions, lectures and interactive formats as well as workshops. Parts of the event will be streamed online, video recordings will be made available online and in the media library of Bayerischer Rundfunk . Radio-Welle Bayern 2 and ARD Alpha will broadcast the content of the conference in individual programs.

The Zündfunk Netzkongress is organized by the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation, and there is in charge of the Zündfunk editorial team , the scene magazine on Bavaria 2. In the years 2013 to 2018 there was a call for papers, an open format in which those interested in their topic for the conference could apply. In 2019 there was an open networking meeting for activists from the areas of environment / conscious consumption ( Fridays for Future , Extinction Rebellion , anti-capitalist climate meeting, bits & trees, plastic-free living, food sharing ) and digital freedom rights ( SaveYourInternet , Netzpolitik.org ).

Mottos 2013 to 2019

The organizers have outlined the main theme (s) with an annually changing motto.

  • 2013
42! Based on the answer to the question "About life, the universe and everything else" from Douglas Adams' " The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy ". 42 is also the first in a long line in which the pop culture context played a role.
  • 2014
Don't panic! The second Zündfunk Netzkongress is based on Douglas Adams' "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy".
  • 2015
Take The Red Pill! The motto quote comes from the trilogy "Matrix", in which Keanu Reeves aka Neo swallowed the red pill of knowledge.
  • 2016
Mind The Gap! The famous inscription on the platforms of the London Underground was in a figurative sense, among other things, an allusion to the digital divide in society.
  • 2017
WTF ...! Based on the abbreviation for What The Fuck !, an urban slang expression of great surprise or amazement, the motto this year was modular. It was supplemented with What The Fiction !, What The Freedom! or What The Fake! and illustrated the main themes of the congress.
  • 2018
Cash tag. The Cashtag hashtag put the focus on the economy.
  • 2019
Free. Networked. For all. Instead of an annually changing motto, the Zündfunk Netzkongress 2019 gave itself a permanent claim.

criticism

In the first two years, the conference was criticized for the fact that the relationship between speakers was too male-dominated. The organizers countered this from 2015. In 2017, 2018 and 2019 the ratio was largely balanced.
