The Zakarias Dam is a 95 meter high dam in the municipality of Fjord in the Norwegian province ( Fylke ) Møre og Romsdal . It was built from 1966 to 1969 and in the year of its completion it was the highest in Northern Europe. In 1976 she was awarded the Norwegian architecture prize Betongtavlen .

The double-curved arch dam of concrete varies from one meter to 4.20 meters in thickness. Support pillars, so-called abutments, are formed on the sides. An insulation wall has been erected on the air side. The inspection gallery is located between this and the dam.

The dam dams the lake Zakariasvatn with 70 million m³ to 375–450 moh. and after the Vikvatn reservoir, with 72 million m³, forms the second largest reservoir of the Tafjordfjella hydropower plant. It supplies water for the Tafjord IV hydroelectric power station. When the lake was dammed, three farms were flooded, the remains of which can still be seen when the water level is low.

In 2003 the building was reassessed. Among other things, control calculations were carried out using the FEM analysis, which showed that the fall stability at the abutments was not satisfactory. So reinforcement measures were taken. In 2006 the earthquake safety study found that if the reservoir were empty, the upper part of the dam could collapse. Further renovation measures were carried out in 2009.
