The Zakhchin were a western Mongolian subgroup of the Oirats who lived in the Khovd province of Mongolia in the late Middle Ages .

They originally spoke the Zakhchin dialect of the Oirat language, but in fact the pure Oirat language was used by older generations, younger generations used a dialect that was under a strong Khalkh influence.

The Zakhchins, conquered by the Manchus of the Qing Dynasty in 1754 and controlled by Zasagt Khan Aimags Tsevdenjav Gün, then moved to Zereg and Shar Khulsan .
