Zakia Khattabi (born January 15, 1976 in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode / Sint-Joost-ten-Node ) is a Belgian social worker and politician of the Ecolo party , of which she has been co-party leader since March 2015.

Life

Khattabi grew up as the daughter of Moroccan immigrants in the capital region of Brussels . She studied social sciences at the Université libre de Bruxelles and then worked as a social worker.

From 2009 to 2014 she was a member of the parliament of the Brussels capital region and at the same time a senator in the Belgian Senate , where she was also chair of the Ecolo group from 2012 to 2014. In the municipality of Ixelles / Elsene , which belongs to the capital region , she was also a member of the local council for the Ecolo party from 2012 to 2014. From 2014 to 2015 she was a member of the Belgian Chamber of Deputies .

In March 2015 she was elected to the Ecolo dual leadership together with Patrick Dupriez at the Ecolo party conference in Charleroi , which is why she gave up her mandate in accordance with the Ecolo party guidelines against the accumulation of offices.
