artificial lake in the quarry |
The Zalew Zakrzówek , also known as Zakrzówek , is a flooded quarry in the Polish Lesser Poland Voivodeship on the territory of the city of Kraków in the district of the same name , in the district of Dębniki on the right bank of the Vistula .
description
The lake lies at a height of approx. 200 meters above sea level and is up to 32 meters deep. It was built in 1990 in a former quarry of the same name, in which limestone was already being mined in the Middle Ages when people stopped pumping out the penetrating groundwater. For the most part, the banks form steep rock faces up to 30 meters high.
Since 2002 there has been a dispute between a citizens 'initiative and the city administration over the development of the shores of the lake, which the citizens' initiative tries to prevent. The conservationists point out that numerous endangered animal species have settled at the lake, such as the smooth snake . Nevertheless, in 2014 the city administration passed a development plan for the area around the lake with only four votes against. In the area, single-family houses and villas are being built for the better-off Krakow population.
tourism
The Kraken diving center has been located on the shores of the lake since 1999 and leases the area from the city. The diving club has sunk numerous objects in the lake, including a Polski Fiat 125p , which divers visit at a depth of 7 to 32 meters. The underwater visibility is approx. 15 meters thanks to the clear water. The lake is popular with divers from all over Poland.
The lake is used by the Kraków people as a recreational area, although bathing in the lake is prohibited due to numerous swimming accidents. Since the swimming ban is ignored again and again, new swimming accidents and falls occur again and again. Since the lake has numerous bays, effective control of the ban is hardly possible.
