Zapicán is a place in Uruguay .
geography
It is located in the Cuchilla de Palomeque in the north of the Lavalleja department in sector 11 , southeast of José Batlle y Ordóñez . The departmental capital Minas to the south is 123 kilometers away.
history
The village was founded in 1887 by Pablo Fernández .
Infrastructure
In the southern part of the village, the Ruta 40 and the Ruta 14 meet. The Montevideo - Nico Pérez - Río Branco railway runs through Zapicán . The area around Zapicán is characterized by extensive livestock farming.
Residents
The population of Zapicán is 553 (as of 2011), of which 291 are male and 262 are female. Since 1963, Zapicán has seen a steady population decline.
