The GDR ice hockey championship 1957/58 was held in a major league with six teams. As in previous years, SG Dynamo Weißwasser became GDR champions . The same teams took part in the three divisions as in the previous season; in addition, the ranked district champions from Berlin and Karl-Marx-Stadt ( ASK Vorwärts Berlin and SC Motor Karl-Marx-Stadt ) were added to the first division 2nd league of representatives from the Erfurt district , the BSG Motor Eisenach , completed the field of participants.

It can be assumed that, as in the years before and after, the relay winners participated. Except for the final climber BSG Wismut Wilkau-Haßlau no other season winners are known. With the sports club teams ASK Vorwärts Erfurt , SC Turbine Erfurt and SC Empor Rostock , three newcomers (possibly district champions?) Were classified in the first division due to their skill level.
