The GDR ice hockey championship in 1966/67 brought no new surprises. While SC Dynamo Berlin was able to successfully defend its championship title from the previous year, the toughest competitor from Weißwasser was second again, just one point behind. The third-placed army sports club from Crimmitschau already had a negative point account. The sporting discrepancy within the league continued between the divisions. The team from SC Einheit Dresden - with a win out of 25 matches without a chance in the upper league - won the relegation against the group league champions from Boxberg. With 28 teams, the popularity of the second division was as high as in the previous season.
