The DDR-Hockey Championship 1981/82 brought to the SC Dynamo Berlin produced the so far most superior winner of the last year. The capital city missed their opponent from Weißwasser the maximum penalty of ten defeats from ten games, which was a novelty since the introduction of the Oberliga series in 1970/71. As a result, the Berliners were already established as champions after six match days.

In the GDR determination of the best , on the other hand, the audience witnessed a three-way battle for the title, in which the "eternal third" BSG Motor Bad Muskau put the great favorite Monsator Berlin in distress with an unexpected victory. Subsequently, the Berliners were able to prevail in the duel of the supposedly strongest teams against hosts Einheit Crimmitschau , which ultimately not only gave them a successful title defense, but also a new record with six overall wins. While the Crimmitschauer tied for points had to make do with second place again, the Bad Muskauer tied for the fifth year in a row only got bronze.
