The GDR ice hockey championship 1953/54 was held in the major league with six teams. The SG Dynamo Weißwasser defended the title from last year with only one defeat. By resolution of the German Sports Committee ( ice and roller hockey section ), the relegation regulation was lifted in favor of a top division increase.

    Promotion round to the league 1954/55

    The 15 district champions of the GDR were eligible to participate in the promotion round to the league, but championships were not held in all districts or participants were reported.
