Kurt Stürmer (born February 18, 1926 in Weißwasser ; † November 15, 2009 there ) was a German ice hockey player .

Career

Like many boys from Weißwasser, Kurt Stürmer began taking his first steps on the brown pond as a child . Together with Wolfgang Blümel he successfully trained in the Weißwasseraner junior teams and as a teenager already played in the Silesian selection at the German Youth Championships in Vienna . Kurt Stürmer learned the trade of glassmaker and later worked as a glassmaker in the special glass factory unit in Weißwasser during his active career . During the Second World War he was captured by the English. After his return in 1948, he worked to ensure that ice hockey could be revived in Weißwasser .

As a player, he won twelve GDR championship titles (from 1951 to 1962 ) in a row with the men's team from Dynamo Weißwasser after finishing third in the East German ice hockey championship in 1950 . He and his team also won the Marvin Cup in La Chaux-de-Fonds , Switzerland, and the Pavoni Cup in Bolzano , Italy . Kurt Stürmer was used 62 times in the national ice hockey team of the GDR and took part in two ice hockey world championships .

Kurt Stürmer was an idol of his time because he stood for exemplary and fair play. For this, too, he was awarded the honorary title “ Master of Sports ”. After his active career, Kurt Stürmer passed on his experience as a trainer to the youngsters in Weißwasser for many years .
