The GDR ice hockey championship 1961/62 was held in the major league with eight teams and was won for the 12th time in a row by SG Dynamo Weißwasser . The first division had to cope with the bloodletting after the numerous team dissolutions in the summer break and was filled with some lower-class teams. After one of the followers, the ASG Vorwärts Crimmitschau , had also canceled the game, the season started with only seven participants.
