Llynvi Valley Railway

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Llynvi Valley Railway was a British railway company based in Glamorganshire in Wales .

history

The company received on August 7, 1846 under the name Llynvi Valley and South Wales Junction Railway the concession to build a railway line between Llangynwyd in the Llynfi Valley and Margam on the planned railway line of the South Wales Railway . However, this project did not materialize, instead the horse-drawn Dyffryn Llynfi and Porthcawl Railway was taken over on July 22, 1847 and converted to a railway with steam locomotive operation. With the opening of the South Wales Railway between Swansea and Chepstow , an improvement in traffic was expected. Since the beginning of the 1850s, the South Wales Railway had taken corporate control of the company. In 1855 the Llynvi Valley Railway took over the Bridgend Railway horse-drawn railway .

On August 1, 1861, the reconstruction of the routes was completed and freight traffic was opened. Passenger traffic began on August 1, 1865. On June 28, 1866, the company merged with the Ogmore Valley Railways to form the Llynvi and Ogmore Railway .
