The SC Motor Berlin was a sports club from East Berlin . It was founded in 1955 and merged with TSC Oberschöneweide two years later . The sports included a. Football , ice hockey , handball , water polo , table tennis , rowing , chess and diving .

history

From 1954, to promote competitive sports in the GDR sports system, the competitive sports sections were separated from the company sports associations (BSG) and combined into sports clubs that were assigned to the respective sports associations. The popular athletes mostly stayed in the SPAs. In Berlin during this time u. a. the SC Dynamo or the SC unit . SC Motor Berlin was founded in February 1955 and was part of the Motor Sports Association .

After two years, Motor Berlin was founded on June 16, 1957 with the company sports associations of the state- owned companies Transformatorenwerk Oberspree ( Motor Oberschöneweide ), Kabelwerk Oberspree ( Motor Oberspree ), Berlin accumulator and element factory ( Motor Wuhlheide / Schöneweide ) and TV electronics factory ( Motor Ostend ) summarized in the newly founded TSC Oberschöneweide.

The careers of various branches of the club are described below. The list of the categories listed does not claim to be complete.

ice Hockey

SC Motor took over the team and the place in the major league from BSG Motor Treptow during the 1954/55 season . At the end of the season, the team was relegated to the 1st division, but managed to get promoted again immediately in 1955/56 . After a fifth place in the following season , TSC Oberschöneweide Motors took over the place and team.

Soccer

During the current 1954/55 season, SC Motor took over the team and division of BSG Motor Oberschöneweide in the GDR league . At the end of the season, the three league seasons were combined into one season. Berlin missed the qualification and was relegated to the newly created II. GDR League . In the following sportingly insignificant transition round in 1955 and in the game year 1956 , the team finished fourth in the table. During the game year 1957 , the team and the league place were taken over by TSC Oberschöneweide.

Handball

Motor Berlin played from 1954 to 1959 in the then top-class GDR indoor handball league , where it achieved second place behind the eventual champions Motor Rostock as the best relay placement in the 1955/56 season . After the first two games of the premiere season 1954/55, SC Motor took over the team from BSG Motor Friedrichshain-Ost, which had already participated in the final round of the championship as Berlin district champion in the three previous seasons. 1958/59 the team was already under the name TSC Oberschöneweide, but rose after only one season with the new name from the top division.

rowing

The rowers of the SC Motor emerged from the rowing section of the BSG Motor Wendenschloss . They were able to provide the club with numerous GDR championship titles and formed the basis for the rowing department of TSC Oberschöneweide, which was later also successful. The SC was able to win the following championships in the GDR:

Table tennis

The men's team from Motor Berlin won the GDR championship played by DTTV in 1956 and 1957. The following team competed for Berlin in both seasons: Heinz Schneider , Günter Matthias , Lothar Pleuse , Heinz Reimann , Hans Täger , Oskar Frank and Klaus Beyer .

Diving

The SC Motor jumpers celebrated successes in the women's high diving. Brigitte Socher won the GDR championship in 1955 and Brigitte Retsch in 1956 for the SC. Socher had already won this title for Motor Treptow in 1953 and 1954 .
