Heinz Reimann (table tennis player)

Heinz Reimann (born November 2, 1934 in Auerbach (Zwickau) ) is a former German table tennis player . He was one of the best players in the GDR in the 1950s and won 14 national titles.

National successes

Reimann is left-handed. He began his career at the BSG Einheit Auerbach association, which he left in 1950 to switch to BSG Motor Jena . In 1955 he moved to SC Motor Berlin , only to return to Motor Jena two years later. With these clubs he was eight times in a row team champion of the GDR from 1952 to 1959.

At the national individual championships of the GDR Reimann won another six titles: 1953 in singles, in doubles in 1953 and 1955 with Helmut Hanschmann and in 1960 with Lothar Pleuse , in mixed 1953 with Hannelore Hanft and 1959 with Sigrun Kunz . He reached the final in 1955 in mixed with Grete Herber , in 1960 in singles against Lothar Pleuse and in 1961 in doubles with Rolf Lippert .

In 1953 Reimann was in tenth place in the overall German ranking, and in 1958 he was sixth in the GDR ranking

In 1965 Reimann ended his active career. In 1982 he celebrated a comeback at Carl Zeiss Jena.

International appearances

Reimann was nominated for world championships five times, in 1953 , 1957 , 1959 , 1961 and 1963 . At the European Championships in 1960 he reached the quarterfinals with Sigrun Kunz in mixed doubles.

In 1959 Reimann was honored with the title of Master of Sports .

Private

Heinz Reimann attended the Scholl secondary school in Auerbach, where he and his brother Frank discovered table tennis. He married the table tennis player Renate Kohn . He is a precision mechanic by profession.
