Lothar Pleuse

Lothar Pleuse (born June 4, 1936 in Berlin ) is a former table tennis player of the GDR . From the mid-1950s to the mid-1960s he was one of their top players. He was several times GDR champion and took part in six world championships .

Career

Pleuse did not come into contact with table tennis until he was 14. He joined the Ajax Neptun Berlin club and then Stern Kaulsdorf . He later moved to Motor Ostend , where the then leading GDR player Siegfried Facius (1915–1968) was his coach. Later Pleuse played for the clubs SC Motor Berlin , BSG Lok Erich Steinfurth Berlin , TSC Oberschöneweide and TSC Berlin . With SC Motor Berlin, he was GDR team champion in 1956 and 1957. At the end of the 1960s, Pleuse had to stop competitive sports for health reasons.

successes

Pleuse took part in the world championships in 1955 , 1957 , 1959 , 1961 , 1963 and 1965 . In 1961 the GDR team won against that of the FRG. Pleuse defeated Wolfgang Prandke and Martin Ness . In 1958, 1960, 1964 and 1966 he was nominated for the European table tennis championships . In 1964 he won bronze in a mixed with Doris Hovestädt . He played a total of 74 international matches for the GDR. In 1961 he became the international champion of Poland. In 1965 he retired from the national team.

Pleuse won the GDR championship in 1960 and 1965 in singles and in 1957, 1960, 1961 (each with Heinz Schneider ), 1963 (with Siegfried Lemke ) and 1965 (with Wolfgang Stein ) in doubles. Around 1965 he was ranked number 1 in the GDR rankings for several years.

In 1959 he was awarded the honorary title of Master of Sports .

Private

Pleuse is a carpenter by profession. He is married and has two sons.
