Wolfgang Prandke
Wolfgang Prandke (born March 16, 1943 , † September 29, 2013 in Berlin ) was a German table tennis player . He won the national ranking tournament in 1961.
The left-hander Prandke had his high performance in the late 1950s and early 1960s. At that time he was considered the strongest German youth player. He has won five German youth championships:
- 1957 in doubles with Peter Czichowski
- 1958 in single
- 1959 mixed with Jutta Fischer
- 1960 in doubles with B. Marks and in mixed with Jutta Fischer
He achieved his first international success in 1957 at the international youth championships in England. Here he won singles, doubles (with Craemer (England)) and mixed (with Ursel Ehebrecht). In the same tournament he also took part in the youth events, where he won doubles with Martin Ness and mixed with Ursel Ehebrecht.
In the men's area he was with Tennis Borussia Berlin 1959/60 champions of the Oberliga Nord, a year later the team came second. In the final round of the German team championship in 1961, Prandke only lost one game (against Wolf Berger ), but won six times. In 1962 he joined the SC Charlottenburg club . 1961 won Prandke the national ranking tournament , at the National German championships, he finished in third place individual. In the same year he lost the final against the Swede Hans Alsér at the international German championships in Berlin after he had eliminated Josip Vogrinc (Yugoslavia) and Toni Larsson (Sweden). Because of his success, he was invited to the 1961 World Cup , where he came in seventh place with the German team. In the individual he reached the fourth round, where he was defeated by the Chinese Hu Taopen.
After that it was quiet about Prandke. In 1962 he was banned from the SC Charlottenburg club for seven months for unsportsmanlike conduct. Around 1964 he played with DJK Südost Berlin in the regional league, later in the upper league. With Tennis Borussia (since 1966) he won again in 1966/67 in the Oberliga Nord, at the Berlin championship he reached the final in 1966.
Prandke was married to Birgit Szymanski since April 1966. They had two children.
