(2005)

Is that really supposed to be all? is the second studio album by the Austrian pop rock singer Christina Stürmer . After her debut album was only released under "Christina", this is the first album by Stürmer that was released under her full name. The album was released on June 8, 2004 in Austria and reached number 1 in the album charts as a newcomer .

background

The album was number 1 for eight weeks and was in the Austrian charts for a period of 64 weeks. Like Christina's first release, this album was also awarded three times platinum, which corresponds to more than 90,000 albums sold in Austria.

After the great success of their debut album Freier Fall , the release of their second album was brought forward. The management to Alexander Kahr already decided the album a year after the first-time success, and not, as planned, to be published until 18 months later. In the run-up, the expectations and the pressure to succeed due to the large sales figures for the first album were very high. The sale was supported by extensive advertising in the press, television and radio.

Due to the success in Austria, there was also a publication of Should that really be everything? planned in Germany. However, the management decided to wait for the further development and only the single Vorbei was released in Germany in 2004, with very modest success. More singles were released, with comparatively rather average ratings, whereupon Christina Stürmer withdrew in order to plan and prepare her musical career outside of Austria.

music

Christina positions herself with Should that really be everything? more mature, more independent, more thoughtful and definitely more critical. Overall, the album seems calmer than her debut Freier Fall . Melancholy ballads and love songs come to the fore. Delimited with energetic groovy titles like Gone or she love you like I do , however, give the album the "rough edges" in the life of the artist. All in all, Christina seems more vocal and more expressive. The texts dispense with extensive paraphrases and are very direct.

Christina Stürmer sings exclusively in German without a pronounced dialect . The audience and the professional world try to assign them to a genre . Comparisons with the Neue Deutsche Welle are made. Due to the greatest success as an Austrian artist since Falco , Christina's music, especially through the media, is also attributed to Austropop .

Reviews

  • Franz A. Stanzl, germ : “With her second disc, Christina Stürmer brings 16 songs onto the market, all of which are good. With the scrap that likes to romp around the figures of the charts, you and women are well served with what the group is saying about the pierced cheerful nature. "
  • Sonja Schröder, Music Channel : “If you listen to the lyrics like that, it sounds very plain and simple, like a musical diary. If only the sung shopping list is missing, then it would almost be an everyday description. But she no longer likes to go shopping, she would rather live in a supermarket, there is everything your heart desires. Unfortunately, one notices a little that the texts and compositions were created under pressure to succeed, but Christina's unbelievable charisma and her concise voice make up for a lot. "
  • Oliver Jungwirth, Musikmagazin : “Well, here we have the second disc from Austria's biggest current star in the pop sky. I hate to quote Mr. Alfred Dorfer , but as he once said so aptly: 'I'm a cabaret artist, but even I wouldn't have thought of something like that'. This also applies to the title of Christina Stürmer's CD. Is that really supposed to be all? Seems so. This CD could hardly have been called more aptly (the only other equally honest CD I can think of is Nina Proll's 12 songs, not the worst ). And Miss Stürmer's light is still shining on the musical horizon. And slowly I really don't understand it anymore. "
