Mama (Ana Ahabak) ( Arabic أنا أحبك anā uḥibbuk  'I love you', for: “Mama (I love you)”) is the third single release by the Austrian pop-rock singer Christina Stürmer . The song waspresentedat the premiere of Starmania NG inearly November 2003and was first released in Austria on November 17th. The piece was written and composed by Alexander Kahr and Robert Pfluger .

background

After the success of Don't go if you come and especially I live from the album Freier Fall , this song was re-recorded as the last single for a radio version. The song was selected for the current occasion (the beginning of the Iraq war ). The text describes the life of a child (whether a girl or a boy is not revealed) during a war.

In the first verse, the child asks his mother why she is sad . The chorus is sung in Arabic and means something like Mama, I love you in German (although grammatically incorrect because the mother is not masculine. “Ahabik” would be more correct, depending on the dialect). In the second verse, the child asks his mother where to go and wants to go back home. However, due to certain circumstances it seems impossible to return. In the third verse, too, the child asks in a concerned manner: Where are these people going? Tell me is there still a long way to go? At the end of the song, the child speaks to his dead mother.

success

The song rose immediately from zero to one in Austria on November 30, 2003, both in the Ö3 Austria Top 40 and in the gotv Austrian ranking and stayed in this position for six weeks. The CD was sold more than 30,000 times and was awarded the platinum record by IFPI Austria.

After the album Schwarz Weiß was released in the rest of the German-speaking countries, the 2005 version of the number one hit was released and was ranked 11th in Germany and 35th in Switzerland.
