Freier Fall is the debut album by Austrian pop-rock singer Christina Stürmer . The album was released on June 16, 2003 and reached number 1 in the Austrian album charts as a newcomer .

background

Stürmer had reached second place in the Austrian talent show Starmania in 2002/03 . She was then signed by Universal Music Austria and began work on her first solo album. Since Stürmer's last name was not yet well known, the album and the associated singles were released under the stage name "Christina".

Well-known composers and producers such as Chris Gelbmann, Thorsten Brötzmann, Robert Pfluger and Alexander Kahr were involved in the production of the album . It was number 1 in Austria for seven weeks and was in the charts for 77 weeks. In addition, the album was awarded triple platinum by IFPI Austria , which corresponds to more than 90,000 albums sold in Austria.

music

The music performed by Christina in Freier Fall in German-language, without pronounced dialect , is difficult to assign to a genre when the album was released . It includes rock and pop and elements bordering on hits . The titles contain " punk " styles that can be compared with titles by Avril Lavigne . The artist presents herself with a certain extroversion as well as with the sales-promoting mass compatibility, comparable to Nena , and a musical sensitivity that Herbert Grönemeyer also conveys in his songs. With Freier Fall , Christina Stürmer addresses alternative or indie rock sympathizers as well as fans of heartwarming German-language pop and hit music.

Reviews

  • Bernhard Lichtenberger: "Christina, a product of artificial media fertilization, which developed splendidly in the talented womb of Starmania , managed to cut the cord from the rest of the Sangesbrot raised by the ORF relatively painlessly."
  • Rainer Kavalir: “ Christina deliberately sings in German on her CD Freier Fall . The lyrics deal with 'hot' topics such as the beauty craze of young women, computer games that encourage violence, drugs and of course love. Musically, it is somewhere between Avril Lavigne, Sportfreunde Stiller and the hip Berlin band 2Raumwohnung. "
  • Willy Zwerger: “The likeable Altenberger woman convinced once again with her powerful voice, her sound phrasing and her musicality that sounded completely natural. Above all, however, it is a number better live than on the album, it is visibly and audibly much more fun for her to sing to an audience made of flesh and blood than a mixer with a glass wall in front of it.
