Lists on the subject |
The Zastava M56 was a submachine gun that was made in Yugoslavia. It was developed as a replacement for the M49 submachine gun , in the 7.62 × 25 mm Tokarew M1930 caliber , and introduced by the Yugoslav armed forces. Many components were taken over from the German MP 40 .
In the late 1950s, the Yugoslav armed forces began modernizing their equipment. For these purposes, the M56 was designed to replace the M49 submachine gun. From 1965, an identical version for the 9 × 19 mm caliber was also produced in smaller numbers , which was designated as M65.
The Zastava M56 is a self-firing recoil loader with an unlocked ground lock. The retractable buttstock and the basic structure of the weapon were copied from the German MP 40. The technical structure corresponds to a greatly simplified MP 40, which makes the M56 uncomfortable to use. In addition to the MP 40, the M56 is also similar to the Soviet PPS-43 submachine gun. The weapon has a fire selector lever to choose between single and continuous fire. To set the weapon to single fire , the button in front of the trigger guard must be pressed to the left. Then the lettering "JEU" for single fire can be seen. For continuous fire, the switch is pressed to the right, whereby the inscription "RAFAL" can be read. In order to secure the weapon, it is possible to turn the cocking handle 90 degrees around its own axis when the slide is open, whereby the slide is blocked. The cocking handle is on the right. The aiming device is a folding visor that can be adjusted for a distance of 100 or 200 meters. The muzzle velocity is 520 meters per second, the maximum operational range 200 meters. The submachine gun can be disassembled by pressing a button at the rear of the housing to unscrew the end cap. Then the lock and return spring can be removed. The design of the M56, however, allows the weapon to be assembled incorrectly. This allows the weapon to disassemble itself during use (especially while shooting).
