Lists on the subject

The Zastava M49 and the slightly modified version M49 / 57 were submachine guns manufactured by the Zastava arms factory in Yugoslavia after the Second World War . Outwardly, the M49 is very similar to the Soviet PPSch submachine gun . In terms of construction, the weapons differ greatly from one another.

The M49 submachine guns were used by the Yugoslav armed forces until they were replaced by the Zastava M56 submachine guns . In addition, the weapons (in small numbers in 9 × 19 mm Para caliber ) were sold worldwide.

construction

The striking external features of the PPSch-41 were adopted for the M49. The wooden stock , the barrel jacket with cooling slots, the beveled shape of the compensator , the trigger , the fire selector in front of the trigger and the sighting device are very similar . A noticeable difference to the PPSch-41 in the features mentioned is the circular shape and the larger number of cooling holes in the barrel jacket. The M49 is loaded with the same 35-round curve magazine that the PPSch-41 can use. It is also possible to use the distinctive drum magazines of the PPSch-41, but this was not common. The magazine well seems to be better constructed on the M49 than on the PPSch-41, because magazines can be used by different weapons, while with the Soviet MPi other magazines often jammed, which led to problems. The manual safety device is located in front of the trigger guard in the stock of the M49 . If the safety button is pushed to the left through the stock, the slide and trigger are blocked; if the button is in the right position, the weapon is ready to fire. This construction is very different from the security of the PPSch-41. The manufacturing methods of the two weapons are also very different. The PPSch is largely manufactured using the sheet metal stamping process, while the housing of the M49 is milled.

The M49 works on the same principle as the PPSch-41. The weapon is a firing recoil loader with an unlocked ground lock . However, the breechblock housing, breechblock and return spring are constructed similarly to the Beretta M1938 submachine guns . The lever for cocking the weapon is on the right side and moves with the breech during firing. In the M49 model, the return spring was fixed in a tube to make it easier to dismantle the weapon. The M49 / 57 model has been simplified slightly to make it easier to manufacture. For example, a conventional return spring was used. Interestingly, the M49 went through similar modifications in its development as the Beretta M1938, which was simplified in a similar way. A folding serving as sight the rear sight , which can be adjusted for a distance of 100 or 200 meters, and a grain having grain protection. The muzzle velocity is 520 meters per second, the maximum operational range 200 meters. To disassemble the weapon, press the button on the rear end of the housing to unscrew the end cap. Then the lock with the return spring can be removed. Although the M49 and the PPSch-41 differ relatively strongly in their construction, they should behave very similarly when firing.
