Zbtb7 ( Zinc finger and BTB domain-containing protein 7 , originally Pokemon ) is a cancer-promoting protein in vertebrates , which is encoded by the ZBTB7 gene (located on chromosome 19p13.3). The first discovery was published in Nature in 2005 . The substance suppresses the transcription of certain proteins and thus indirectly inhibits the function of the tumor suppressor proteins RB and p53 .

The original name Pokemon stands for " POK e rythroid m yeloid on togenic factor" and is a Backronym the Pokémon series of movies and games. After a complaint from Nintendo and Pokémon USA in December 2005, the standard designation "Pokemon" was withdrawn, since then it has been called "Zbtb7".
