Zeche Diepenbrock is the name of a former mine in the Selbeck district of the Saarn district of Mülheim in the Ruhr area .
history
In 1844 were near Selbeck ore occur ( bog iron and zinc ) discovered and mined . In 1882 the industrial exploitation of the ore (zinc, lead , copper and sulfur ores ) began by the Selbecker ore mines union in what was then the rural community of Breitscheid-Selbeck ( Düsseldorf district ). The Neu-Diepenbrock mine, named after the district forester Engelbert Diepenbrocken, who came from Lintorf , mined until 1907.
The required workforce, in 1892 already 570 workers, came from Italy and mostly from the Eifel . Selbeck was nicknamed Neu- Prüm at this time .
The first miners found accommodation with the Selbeck farmers as boarders and / or sleepers . Through the colliery, Selbeck had a share in the economic upswing. A living and dining establishment was built for unmarried miners on Kölner Strasse not far from the colliery site.
The Theodor-Fliedner-Werk , a residential facility of the Diakonie with 600 places, is located on the site of the former colliery .
