The Witten colliery was a hard coal mine in Bommern . The mine was also known as Zeche Sonnenschein , and the mine was also called Feld Witten at times .

Mining history

The mine was put into operation in August 1935. It had a tonneau shaft with a shallow depth of 50 meters. The mine was shut down again on November 1st of the following year. On March 4, 1948, the mine was put back into operation as a prospecting operation. In the same year, a shaft was at Goltenbusch near the train station Bommern height drilled . The shaft was sunk down to the Sonnenschein seam and accordingly named the Sonnenschein shaft. In 1949 the mine was named Feld Witten. From the following year the mine was called Zeche Witten. In the same year, the Witten colliery began funding as a small mine . The Fritz union was the owner of the small mine . The Sunshine Union later took over the mine. In 1954, three miners were injured in a flame. From 1960 the Witten colliery was also called the Sunshine Colliery. On March 1st of the same year ownership changed again, now to Theodor Imberg. On May 2, 1963 was a singeing of firedamp , this three miners were injured. On August 31, 1967, the Witten colliery was shut down.

Promotion and workforce

The first known production and workforce figures for the mine come from 1936, with 13 employees in 1999 tons of hard coal were extracted. In 1950 the colliery mined 2,747 tons of hard coal, the workforce was 16 employees. In 1955, 33 employees produced 8,265 tons of hard coal. The maximum production of the mine was in 1957, with 46 employees 11,691 tons of hard coal were extracted. In 1960, 6,329 tons of hard coal came to light, and the workforce this year was 34. The last known workforce and production figures for the mine are from 1965. In that year 33 people were employed at the mine, they extracted 8016 tons of hard coal.
