The Zecheriner Bridge is a bascule bridge over the Peenestrom on the federal road 110 . It is located about six kilometers west of the city of Usedom and is one of two road connections to the island of Usedom , along with the Wolgast Pier.

history

In 1867 the barge and Pram ferries “Klotzower Fähre” and “Pinnower Fähre” could no longer handle the traffic to the island of Usedom. A road embankment (today's B 110) was raised from Johannishof south of Pinnow to the Peenestrom, and a fiscal ferry station with a ferry station was set up at the so-called Schwemmort . When the spa business on the island of Usedom experienced a rapid boom in the 1920s , the capacities of the ferry connections between Schwemmort on the mainland and the island soon reached their limits. Therefore, the district of Usedom-Wollin initiated the construction of a road bridge. Construction work began in 1930. The following year, on May 22, 1931, the connection was opened as the Usedom bathing bridge .

Shortly before the end of the Second World War , the bridge was blown up by the Wehrmacht in 1945 . It was not until 1955 that it could be opened for road traffic again. In 1999 and 2000 the bridge was completely renovated.

technology

The Zecheriner bridge has a total length of 325 meters. The length of the bascule bridge is 20 meters. When the hatch is closed and the water level is medium, a passage height of six meters is possible. The width of the road is also 6 meters. There is also a 1.5 meter wide sidewalk.

In 2019 there will be three (until March 31) or five (from April 1) opening times of a maximum of 15 minutes each day.

More bridges over the Peene river

  • Currently the only other bridge to the island of Usedom is the Peenebrücke Wolgast , also a bascule bridge located on the federal highway 111 .
  • Another road bridge in Wolgast was included in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan 2030 , which is to be implemented as a 42 m high bridge as the second construction phase in the course of a 7.6 km long bypass . This bridge is intended to be an extradosed bridge and, thanks to its height, allow shipping traffic without the need to open the bridge. The current plan approval procedure is to be accelerated by the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania so that construction can start in 2020. The planning process was initially interrupted for nature conservation reasons. Since migratory birds can hardly see the round ropes of the bridge structure, the plan was changed to flat support ropes. The revised planning documents for the new bridge were published in October 2018. A construction period of four to five years is calculated, with a cost calculation of 94 million euros.
  • The Karnin railway bridge has not yet been rebuilt after being blown up at the end of World War II.
