from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Solomon Ekuma Dominic Berewa (born August 6, 1938 in Bumpe Chiefdom , Bo District; † March 5, 2020 in Freetown ), also known as Solo B, was a politician from Sierra Leone and from 2002 to October 2007 the vice president of his country.

Before being appointed Vice President, Berewa had been his country's Minister of Justice since 1996. In September 2005 he became chairman of the Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP) and stood on August 11, 2007 as one of seven candidates for the election of the new president of Sierra Leone. Berewa received 38.3% of the vote and emerged as the second strongest candidate after Ernest Koroma (44.3%, All People's Congress ). The previous President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah was no longer allowed to stand for election according to the constitution. Since no candidate achieved the required 55%, a run-off election took place on September 8, 2007. His rival Koroma won the runoff election with 54.6% of the vote. After the election defeat, Berewa gave up the party leadership.

In January 2008, Berewa took a chair in peace studies at Bradford University .
