The Zehntscheune Praunheim is a former stately granary in the city of Frankfurt am Main . The tithe barn from the 18th century is a monument according to the Hessian Monument Protection Act . It stands in the historical core of the village of Praunheim, which was incorporated into Frankfurt in 1910, since then Frankfurt-Praunheim , on Graebestrasse , which has existed since the 16th century .

history

The barn, a single-storey building made of stone masonry with a gable roof , has been documented since the 18th century. It is believed that the building dates back to the 14th century. During the feudal period , the tithe , the tax that the local farmers had to give to various feudal lords in the form of goods (harvest, cattle) (the church tithe is documented), was collected and stored in the tithe barn .

In the immediate vicinity of the tithe barn are other cultural monuments, including the Protestant Church of the Resurrection in Praunheim , a manor house known as Junkerhof , directly adjacent to the barn, and the foundation walls of a former castle complex.

Todays use

After the building was no longer used for storing natural goods, it had changing functions as a prison, morgue and fire department garage. The tithe barn has served as an event location since the 1990s and is used for meetings of the local council . The local citizens' association, which has held the annual tithe barn festival since 1985, on the occasion of the restoration of the tithe barn, has its clubhouse there. Rooms can also be rented for private events.
