Zeng is a family name documented in Thuringia since 1296.

origin

The name Zeng comes from Czenge or Cenge from the Middle High German language area, Thuringian. From this, the spelling Zengen, Zenge to Zeng developed from the late Middle Ages to around 1900.

distribution

Until the beginning of the 20th century, the spread of the family name Zeng or Zenge was primarily in northern and central Thuringia. Today the name extends to Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt in Germany. The family name Zeng, derived in China from the character 曾, has no family relationship with the German.

Those von Zenge or von Zengen are documented between 1450 and 1800.
