Agapit Stevens (* 1848 in Brussels ; † 1924 in Watermael-Boitsfort / Watermaal-Bosvoorde ) was a Belgian painter.

There is no information about his artistic training. According to the RKD ( Dutch Institute for Art History ) he was a member of the “L'Essor” artists' association, which proves that he was recognized as a professional artist.

Stevens mainly created salon painting that suited the taste of the bourgeois public: portraits of richly dressed women, harem scenes, nudes. He seldom painted landscapes and cityscapes.

Since he has signed his works with “A. Stevens ”, his works were often confused with works by Alfred Stevens (1823–1906).

In the “Dictionnaire des peintres belges” he is not mentioned among the eight Stevens namesake.

Bénézit claims that it is a group of anonymous artists who were among the many imitators of Alfred Stevens.
