The Zengpiyan site ( Chinese  甑 皮 岩 遗址 , Pinyin Zèngpíyán yízhǐ , English Zengpiyan Site ) is a Neolithic cave site in southern China. It is located at the southwestern foot of the Dushan Mountains (Dú Shān 独山) in the Guilin area, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It is dated from approx. 7000 to 5500 BC. BC or the oldest layer dated to 12,000-11,000 before today.

history

The site was first excavated in 1973. The area of the main cave is approximately 200 square meters. A large number of fire pits and rubbish pits were discovered, and stone material and half-finished stone tools were piled up in the back of the cave interior. Were excavated ailing stone tools and polished stone tools, there are also bone artifacts ( biao -type fishing spears (Yubiao鱼镖), arrowheads (too镞) Ahlen (zhui锥), needles (zhēn针) and hairpins (jī笄)) - and Shell knife (bàngdāo 蚌 刀). The ceramics used mostly belong to the " cord pattern guàn vessel type" (绳纹 罐 类; cf. Jomon pottery ). According to Chinese archaeologists, the pottery is dated between 12,000 and 7,000 today. In the cave there are also piled layers of remains of snail and freshwater mussel shells and animal bones that were thrown away by quite a few people after eating. The natural cave was used as a habitat by the people of the time, possibly a seasonal habitat. The cave also served as a burial site for a while, and bones of around 30 people were discovered. There were no burial pits ( maizangkeng ) or burial implements ( zangju ) to be seen. Most of the funeral took place in a crouched position, there are very few grave goods.

The question of domestication of pigs at this site has not yet been conclusively answered.

The Zengpiyan site ( Zengpiyan yizhi ) has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (5-100) since 2001 .

The Chinese archaeologist Fu Xianguo did a great job of researching them.
