The Zenith minisPORT was a laptop that Zenith Data Systems launched in 1989. The computer had an Intel 80C88 CPU , which - switchable by software - could be operated at 4.77 or 8 MHz. It also had 1 MB of RAM that could be upgraded to 2 MB. The minisPORT was operated with MS-DOS , which was loaded from the ROM . Its LCD had a resolution of 640 × 200 pixels . It was one of the first very small laptops and can be seen as the forerunner of today's subnotebooks .

Furnishing

  • 2 " floppy disk drive
  • built-in FastLynx software that could install itself on another DOS PC via a serial cable in order to be able to transfer files between the laptop and the PC
  • The 384 kB over the 640 kB main memory could be set up as a RAM disk . In this way, the laptop could be operated without using the hard drive in order to increase the service life of the battery. This was unique for DOS-based laptops at the time
  • Later models were treated with a 20 Mbyte hard disk delivered

disadvantage

  • The computer's BIOS was buffered with a battery . If the battery was empty, the laptop could only be booted again if the settings in the BIOS had been corrected beforehand
  • The 2 "floppy disks were not popular due to their very high price
  • The LC display was very low in contrast
