The Central Bank of Libya ( Arabic مصرف ليبيا المركزي, DMG Maṣrif Lībiyā al-markazī , English Central Bank of Libya , CBL) is the national central bank of the State of Libya . It has its headquarters in Tripoli and branches in Benghazi , Sabha and Syrte . Since March 10, 2011, she has been on the list of persons and institutions affected by EU sanctions against Libya in 2011 . Since then, the accounts of the CBL have been blocked in Germany.

The state bank building is located on the northern edge of the old town, immediately west of the Jamahiriyya Museum and close to the historic port area.
history
The CBL took up business on April 1, 1956, replacing the Libyan Currency Committee . To encourage foreign investment and to support the Libyan Investment Authority , the Libyan Arab Foreign Bank , under the full control of the CBL, was established in 1972 .
organization
The bank is headed by the governor , the deputy governor and the governing council . The management of the CBL in general is incumbent on the eight-member Board of Directors , which includes the director and his deputy six other members.
tasks
The main tasks of the CBL include:
- the issuance of the currency,
- monitoring the national payment system ,
- the supervision of the country's gold and foreign exchange reserves ,
- the regulation of the credit system according to the requirements of monetary stability and economic growth as well
- the administration of government bonds .
