The Banco Central do Brasil (BCB) is the Central Bank of Brazil and was founded on December 31, 1964 by decree of Law no. 4595th The BCB is a Brazilian federal agency and reports to the Ministério da Fazenda (Ministry of Finance).

The central bank is integrated in the national financial system and linked to the Ministry of Finance . Like other central banks around the world, the BCB is the leading authority responsible for monitoring the monetary stability of the local currency, the real .
